U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.67%

U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Technology, Consumer Services and Oil & Gas sectors led shares lower. At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.67%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.95%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 1.51%. The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which rose 1.92% or 1.00 points to trade at 52.95 at the close. Meanwhile, McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) added 0.87% or 1.78 points to end at 205.70 and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) was up 0.85% or 1.22 points to 144.28 in late trade. The worst performers of the session were Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), which fell 3.16% or 4.35 points to trade at 133.43 at the close. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) declined 2.20% or 1.86 points to end at 82.64 and Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) was down 1.92% or 1.10 points to 56.08. The top performers on the S&P 500 were Allergan PLC (NYSE:AGN) which rose 25.40% to 162.48, Mylan NV (NASDAQ:MYL) which was up 3.84% to settle at 18.65 and Patterson Companies Inc (NASDAQ:PDCO) which gained 3.15% to close at 24.20. The worst performers were AbbVie Inc (NYSE:ABBV) which was down 16.37% to 65.61 in late trade, Brighthouse Financial Inc (NASDAQ:BHF) which lost 11.70% to settle at 33.66 and EQT Corporation (NYSE:EQT) which was down 6.47% to 14.38 at the close. The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Gemphire Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:GEMP) which rose 36.56% to 1.27, Oxbridge Re Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:OXBR) which was up 31.37% to settle at 1.34 and ENDRA Life Sciences Inc (NASDAQ:NDRA) which gained 22.89% to close at 2.040. The worst performers were Acer Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ACER) which was down 78.63% to 4.120 in late trade, Conatus Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:CNAT) which lost 68.54% to settle at 0.290 and Gamida Cell Ltd (NASDAQ:GMDA) which was down 30.93% to 4.98 at the close. Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1995 to 1018 and 30 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1644 fell and 1016 advanced, while 94 ended unchanged. Shares in AbbVie Inc (NYSE:ABBV) fell to 52-week lows; losing 16.37% or 12.84 to 65.61. Shares in EQT Corporation (NYSE:EQT) fell to 5-year lows; down 6.47% or 0.99 to 14.38. Shares in McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) rose to all time highs; up 0.87% or 1.78 to 205.70. Shares in Acer Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ACER) fell to all time lows; losing 78.63% or 15.160 to 4.120. Shares in Conatus Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:CNAT) fell to all time lows; falling 68.54% or 0.632 to 0.290. Shares in Gamida Cell Ltd (NASDAQ:GMDA) fell to all time lows; losing 30.93% or 2.23 to 4.98. The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 6.68% to 16.28. Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.60% or 8.50 to $1426.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.54% or 0.89 to hit $58.79 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.14% or 0.09 to trade at $64.97 a barrel. EUR/USD was up 0.04% to 1.1369, while USD/JPY rose 0.01% to 107.19. The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 95.648.
